Snowdrop Bulbs

Snowdrop - Galanthus nivalis

The bulb most people think of as the first sign of the year turning. White bell-shaped flowers hang from thin stems, each with a small green mark on the inner petals. It does best in shade under trees and shrubs, where it spreads on its own and comes back each year, thickening into drifts over time.

Best in the ground in clumps of 10–25, under deciduous trees and shrubs or in grass, where they bulk up a little more each year. Nine or ten in a small pot make a good winter display by the door.

Toxic to cats and dogs if eaten.
